As we grow and get more
experienced our perception towards looking at magic of “Small Big Things"
changes. I will share with you one of the learning I had during the course of
management work shop quite some years ago. The motivation to share this with
you stuck to me today when I got across this question of "How to Love your Kids".
In a management workshop, the
attendees were asked to choose one of fellow colleagues as his/her mentor. I
was on the other side and I got Tommie as my mentor. Mentoring began, we were given separate rooms,
without much of interaction between us, I was asked to sit on a chair, and
Tommie stood behind me and asked me to push the chair with my back as much I
could, to point where the chair would topple backward. I tried, pushed the back
of chair, it tilted a bit on the back, however released back with a fear of
getting hurt on the head, if it really toppled. A glass door behind and chair
being on wheels added more to my fear. I tried few times, but could not topple.
Tommie asked me, what stops me; my instant answer was “FEAR". But I am
your mentor said Tommie, you need to “TRUST" me.
Have you ever tossed
your child of say year grown, off your arms? Recall, those who are a parent, would
have noticed (mostly) that your child happily enjoys this with big smile and
laugh on his face, YES! What makes him feel happy? That is, a one on one eye
contact, with eyes filled with love and care, his/her TRUST in you that you
will take all care to prevent not allows him to fall. This is one of the best
ways to love your kids.
1. Develop Trust.
2. Make them feel you are around,
even when they are alone.
3. Hug them often.
4.When they do mistake, explain
them with logic in line with child psychology e.g. if he breaks something’s
very precious to you, it would be wrong to explain a child in terms of value,
instead it be like, explain him, how he would feel if his favorite toy would
be broken.
